Light through the maples
Light through the maples
"Light through the maples" is a vibrant watercolour painting that holds a special place in my heart. Measuring 22.5”x 11”, with the image itself standing at 20.75”x 9.25”, this piece was created on Arches 300lb hot pressed watercolour paper. Inspired by a cherished photograph I took of a maple tree during a memorable summer outing, this artwork captures the essence of lush green foliage.
The dense cluster of maple leaves is rendered with meticulous attention to detail, showcasing a rich array of green shades. From deep, robust tones to lighter, almost yellowish hues, I've aimed to capture the beautiful interplay of light and shadow that danced through the leaves that day. The intricate veining of the leaves, combined with subtle color transitions, adds a stunning sense of depth and texture, bringing the scene to life in a way that feels both timeless and intimate.
The dynamic composition, with its overlapping leaves, fills the frame and invites you to step into this serene, natural environment. Exhibited at the 2022 International Open Water Juried Exhibition by the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC), this painting is not just a reflection of nature's beauty, but a personal memento transformed into art.
