The Star
The Star
I have created a few tarot cards for a couple collab deck’s in the past, but I’ve always wanted to create an entire deck of my own!
The Star (XVII) is the 17th card of the Major Arcana in most traditional Tarot decks. It is used in game playing as well as in divination.
Depiction: A naked woman kneels by the water with one foot in the water, and other on the land. Above her head a star shines out. In each hand she holds a jug, from one jug she pours a liquid into the water and from the other jug she pours a liquid onto the land.
Meaning: When the Star card appears, you are likely to find yourself feeling inspired. It brings renewed hope and faith and a sense that you are truly blessed by the universe at this time.
Upright card (keywords): Astronomy, Good health, Hope, Inspiration, Opportunities, Spirituality
Reversed card (keywords): Despair, Disappointments, Illness, Missed opportunities
Element: Air
Ruling planet: Uranus
I clearly took some inspiration from the traditional card, but in my depiction I went with more a celestial deity approach rather than a human one! The figure is gliding in the air, symbolizing having her head in the clouds, but also being grounded by the water wrapping around her to become her garment. The cloak around her also features many of t the constellations.
This piece is painted on Arches 140lb HP paper and measures 11.69”x 16.53” with a framing allowance of 3/8”. Each original piece is hand numbered with the number of the card in the deck.
